The Beautiful Green Season in the African Bush

Whilst many people are put off by the green season in Africa due to the threat of rain, it is actually, for many photographers, the favourite time of year to visit.

Tourists like to visit when its’ dry and dusty, but when the rains come the bush comes alive with amazing vivid colours and the sky becomes clear and pure. This is the time for photography. Suddenly the bush bursts into life, changing overnight into fresh vibrant colours, with moist green carpets of grass, flowers exploding open and fresh foliage shooting up all over the place. It’s not only the vegetation that comes alive as the wildlife celebrates the onset of the rains, leaping around in genuine joy, and for many it is the time of the giving birth. The calving season of the puku, impala, warthogs and wildebeest all coincide with the rains, offering amazing photographic opportunities. With so many young around there is of course conflict with prowling predators, adding to the drama and emotion.

Let’s not forget that it does rain but if you are prepared for this, and pack appropriately, then actually it can make it even more exciting. Africa’s rains are often very spectacular, offering photographers the chance to capture dramatic skies, amazing light, interesting wildlife behaviours and stunning landscape photography.

Not that us ‘photographers’ are anti-social or frugal, but it is also a great time of year to get away from the normal rush of tourism found during the peak season. Many suppliers also reduce their rates dramatically during the green season which means that you can either stay for longer or stay at some fantastic lodges for bargain prices.

Capture Safaris offers a fantastic opportunity to explore Africa at this dramatic time of year whilst perfecting your photography skills with professional photographers to guide you along your journey.

Capturesafari, if I was planning to go to Africa, after reading your Hub I'd definitely go during the Green Season. Your writing is very descriptive and I could imagine the feel of the place when reading. Great work, I've voted it up.
